Heathrow Airport transfers

Heathrow, without the queue

A pre-booked car at Heathrow means a named chauffeur waiting in arrivals, a fixed price agreed before you fly, and no taxi rank. Central London is about 16 miles away: roughly 35 minutes on a quiet road and closer to an hour in the weekday rush.

Heathrow spreads across four busy terminals, and most of the stress of arriving there happens in the last few hundred metres: the walk to the rank, the wait, the conversation about the route. A pre-booked car removes all of that. You land, you walk through, and someone is standing there with your name.

This page covers how that works at each terminal, what changed for drop-offs in 2026, and how long the drive takes to the parts of London people ask us about most.

How does a pre-booked car work at Heathrow?

You give us your flight number when you book. On the day, your chauffeur follows the flight, parks in the car park beside your terminal shortly before you land, and meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board. From there it is a short walk to the car.

The price is fixed when you book, so the fare does not move if the M4 is slow. In London, private hire cars must be booked in advance through a licensed operator; they cannot pick up passengers who flag them down. That rule is what makes the arrangement predictable: the car, the chauffeur and the price are all settled before you board.

Where will your chauffeur meet you in each terminal?

Your chauffeur meets you just past the arrivals doors. After customs you walk out into a public hall where people wait for passengers; look for your name on a board. The layout is slightly different in each terminal.

  • Terminal 2 is shared by many Star Alliance airlines and has a single, long arrivals hall on the ground floor. The car park sits directly opposite across a covered walkway.
  • Terminal 3 handles a mix of long-haul carriers. Its arrivals hall is compact and can be busy when several wide-body flights land together, so your chauffeur will stand near the exit barrier.
  • Terminal 4 is a little further from the central area and has its own car park a short walk away.
  • Terminal 5 is British Airways’ home. The car park is next to the terminal, reached by a covered walkway from arrivals.

Heathrow renamed its Short Stay car parks as Terminal Parking in September 2025. Airlines do move between terminals from time to time, so check the terminal on your booking confirmation a day or two before you fly.

What are the 2026 drop-off rules at Heathrow?

Every vehicle that enters a Heathrow terminal drop-off zone is charged £7 per visit, and since 1 January 2026 it can stay for a maximum of 10 minutes. The charge applies at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 and must be paid by midnight on the day after the visit.

Miss that deadline and the registered keeper receives an £80 parking charge, reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days. Blue Badge holders can apply for a full discount. Free drop-off remains available at Heathrow’s Park and Ride car parks, which used to be called Long Stay, with a bus to the terminal.

When we take you to the airport, the drop-off charge is our responsibility and is built into your price. You step out at the kerb, your chauffeur lifts your bags onto a trolley, and the car leaves well inside the 10 minutes.

How long does it take to reach central London by car?

Most central destinations are 16 to 19 miles from Heathrow and take 35 to 50 minutes off-peak. In the weekday rush, add between 15 and 25 minutes. The table below comes from road routing between Heathrow and each area; the rush-hour figures include a standard allowance for central London traffic.

Journeys that pass through the Congestion Charging Zone between 07:00 and 18:00 on weekdays, or between 12:00 and 18:00 at weekends, incur the £18 daily charge. It is included in your fixed price.

Which car suits your party and luggage?

Choose by luggage first and passengers second, because suitcases fill a car faster than people do. The Mercedes E-Class takes three passengers and two large cases. The S-Class carries the same number of people, with more rear legroom and a quieter cabin for a long day.

For families or small groups, the V-Class takes six passengers and six large cases, and larger groups travel in two. If you are carrying skis, golf clubs or a pushchair, mention it in the notes; it often decides the vehicle on its own.

What happens if your flight is early, late or diverted?

Because the pickup follows your flight rather than the timetable, an early or late landing moves the pickup with it. You do not need to call. Long queues at the UK Border happen, particularly when several long-haul flights arrive in the early morning, and your chauffeur allows for them.

Diversions are rarer. If your flight lands at Gatwick or Stansted instead, contact us as soon as you can. We will send a car to the new airport or arrange a transfer from where you are.

What the price includes

  1. 01

    Flight tracking

The chauffeur follows your flight number, so an early landing or a delay moves the pickup with it.

  2. 02

    Meet and greet

Your chauffeur waits in arrivals with a board showing your name, and takes the bags from there.

  3. 03

    A fixed price

Agreed when you book. Traffic, a longer route on the day or a late landing do not change it.

  4. 04

    The £7 drop-off charge

Paid by us, so you are set down at the terminal doors rather than at a bus stop.

  5. 05

    A route from live traffic

The chauffeur checks the roads before setting off and picks the line that is moving.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Who pays the Heathrow drop-off charge when you take me to the airport?

We do. The £7 charge is included in the price you accept, and our chauffeurs stay well within the 10-minute limit.

Can you collect me from one terminal and take me to another?

Yes. Transfers between Heathrow terminals are usually quickest on the free Heathrow rail connection, but if you have heavy luggage or reduced mobility, a car can take you between terminal car parks.

Do you connect Heathrow with Gatwick?

Yes. The drive is about 45 miles via the M25 and M23 and usually takes about an hour off-peak. Allow extra time on Friday afternoons, when the M25 between the M4 and the M23 is at its busiest.

Can I request a child seat?

Yes. Add a child seat when you book and give the age of each child, so the chauffeur brings the right seat.

How far ahead should I book?

A few days ahead is ideal, and earlier for dates around school holidays. We can often arrange cars at short notice, but a booking made in good time gives you the widest choice of vehicle.
