Enfield, where the M25 does the work
Enfield sits right beside the M25, and that shapes every airport journey. Luton is about 42 minutes away, Stansted about 53, and even Heathrow is reachable in under an hour by going round London rather than through it.
Enfield is London’s most northerly borough. It stretches from Edmonton and Palmers Green in the south to Enfield Town, Southgate, Cockfosters and the open land along the Hertfordshire border, with the M25 running along its northern edge and the A10 and the A406 cutting through it.
For airport journeys, that motorway access is the main advantage. Chauffeurs from Enfield rarely need to go through central London at all, and the choice of airport is wider than in most boroughs. This page compares them, explains when to leave, and covers the details that make a pickup quick.
Which airport is best from Enfield?
It depends on the flight, because three airports are within an hour. Luton is about 26 miles away and takes around 42 minutes via the M25 and the A1(M). Stansted is about 32 miles and 53 minutes via the M25 and the M11. London City, in the Docks, is about 17 miles and 32 minutes via the A406 North Circular.
Heathrow is further, at about 39 miles, but because the fastest route runs round the M25 rather than across London, it takes only around 49 minutes off-peak. Gatwick is the long one, at about 80 minutes, on the far side of the M25.
How does the drive to Stansted work?
Simply. The car joins the M25 at the A10 junction, runs east to the M11 and heads north to the airport. The whole journey is motorway after the first few minutes, and on a clear road it takes under an hour. In the weekday rush, allow about 70 minutes.
Stansted’s early departures are a big part of what we do from Enfield. For a 06:30 flight, most passengers need to be at the terminal by about 04:30, which means a pickup at about 03:35. The M25 at that hour is almost empty, so the timing is dependable.
The rail alternative is to reach Tottenham Hale and take the Stansted Express, which stops there. It works well for a solo traveller near the line, but it means a change with luggage and a very early start for the first flights.
Is Heathrow really under an hour away?
Usually, yes, as long as the M25 behaves. The route runs west along the M25 from junction 25, past the M1 and the M40, to the Heathrow spur at junction 14. It is about 39 miles and takes around 49 minutes off-peak and about 64 minutes in the rush.
The western M25 between the M40 and the M4 is one of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country, and an incident there can add time quickly. Chauffeurs check it before setting off. If it is blocked, they may go across on the North Circular and the A40 instead. For long-haul flights, we suggest a pickup about three and a half hours before departure.
When is Luton the smart choice?
For many short-haul holidays and city breaks, Luton is the quickest airport from the west of the borough. From Southgate or Cockfosters, the drive via the M25 and the A1(M) often takes around 40 minutes, and the terminal is compact enough that the walk from drop-off to check-in is short.
If you are comparing flights to the same destination from Luton and Stansted, the drive times are similar. The airline and the flight time usually decide it.

What should you tell us for an Enfield pickup?
Most homes in the borough have a driveway or a quiet street outside. The details that help are the house number, the name of the close or the estate, and any gate code. In Hadley Wood, Crews Hill and the lanes towards the Hertfordshire border, satellite navigation can be vague, and a short description in the notes saves time.
For flats around Enfield Town and the new developments at Meridian Water, give us the building name and the entrance with a clear kerb. If you are on an upper floor with a lot of luggage, mention it, and the chauffeur will come up to help.
Which car suits a trip from Enfield?
The Mercedes E-Class suits one or two travellers on a short run to Luton or Stansted. Families flying to the sun should book the V-Class, which takes six passengers and six large cases. For ski trips, mention the equipment, as ski bags and boot bags fill a car quickly.
For groups travelling together, the V-Class keeps everyone in one vehicle and means one pickup rather than two.
Can you bring me home after a late landing?
Yes. Stansted and Luton both handle a lot of late-evening arrivals, and the public transport connections to Enfield after midnight are limited. The chauffeur follows your flight, waits in the arrivals hall however late it lands, and takes the M25 home, which is usually clear at night. The fixed price does not change if the flight is delayed.
