Haringey airport transfers
Haringey, between the hills and the Lea
From Haringey, London City is the quickest airport by road, at about 33 minutes. Heathrow is around 44 minutes away, Luton around 51 and Stansted about an hour. Tottenham Hale, on the borough’s eastern edge, is a stop on the Stansted Express.
Haringey stretches across north London from the hilltop streets of Highgate, Muswell Hill and Crouch End in the west to Tottenham and the River Lea in the east, with Wood Green, Hornsey and Harringay in between. The two halves feel quite different, and they have different airport journeys.
The western side has quick access to the North Circular and the A1, which lead towards Heathrow and Luton. The eastern side is close to the M11 corridor, with a direct train to Stansted from Tottenham Hale. This page covers both, the airports that are harder to reach, and the local details that make a pickup quick, including event days at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Which airport should you use from Haringey?
For short-haul trips to Europe, London City is often the quickest to reach, at about 17 miles and 33 minutes via the North Circular. For long-haul flights, Heathrow is about 23 miles and 44 minutes away off-peak, or around 57 minutes in the rush.
Luton is about 27 miles and 51 minutes via the A1 and the M1, and Stansted is about 36 miles and just over an hour via the North Circular and the M11. Gatwick, on the far side of London, is the slowest, at nearly an hour and a half. The full table with rush-hour times is further down the page.
Should you take the Stansted Express from Tottenham Hale?
If you live near Tottenham Hale and travel light, it is a sensible choice. The Stansted Express stops there on its way from Liverpool Street to the airport, and the ride is quick.
A car is the better option when you live on the western side of the borough, where reaching Tottenham Hale means a bus or a taxi first, when you have a family or several cases, or when your flight leaves before the first trains of the morning. Many Stansted departures leave before 07:00, and for those, a car from your door is the dependable choice.
How long does Heathrow take from Crouch End or Muswell Hill?
About 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the North Circular. The usual route runs down to the A406 at Bounds Green or Finchley, west to Hanger Lane, then along the A40 and the A312 to the airport. When the North Circular is slow, chauffeurs may cut south through Archway and Swiss Cottage to the A40 instead.
For long-haul departures, we suggest a pickup about three hours before the flight. On a Friday afternoon, allow a little more, because the North Circular is busy in both directions from mid-afternoon.
How do event days at Tottenham affect pickups?
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosts football, American football and major concerts, and on event days the Tottenham High Road and the streets around it are restricted for several hours. Parking is suspended across a wide area, and traffic on the A10 and the A1010 builds well before kick-off.
If your pickup falls on an event day, we will check when you book and plan around it. The chauffeur may suggest an earlier pickup or meet you on a street outside the restricted zone. For arrivals landing just as an event ends, the route home avoids the stadium area.

Is Luton a good choice from the west of the borough?
Yes, for many short-haul flights. From Muswell Hill or Highgate, the drive to Luton takes around 50 minutes via the A1 and the M1, and the terminal is compact. From Tottenham, it is similar, via the A406 and the M1.
If you have the choice between Luton and Stansted for the same destination, the drive times from Haringey are close. The airline and the flight time usually decide it.
How do pickups work on Haringey’s streets?
The hilltop streets around Muswell Hill and Crouch End are steep, narrow and heavily parked, and the chauffeur may stop a little way along and walk to your door for the bags. Some roads in the ladder of streets off Green Lanes are one-way, and a clear house number and postcode help the chauffeur approach from the right end.
Wood Green High Road and Tottenham High Road have bus lanes and loading restrictions for much of the day, so the chauffeur will wait on a side street and message you. For flats in the newer developments at Tottenham Hale and Hornsey, give us the building name and the entrance with a drop-off point.
Which car should you book?
The Mercedes E-Class suits one or two travellers and fits easily into narrow streets. Families with holiday luggage should book the V-Class, which takes six passengers and six large cases. For group trips, the V-Class keeps everyone together.
If you are carrying sports equipment, instruments or anything bulky, describe it in the notes, and we will choose the car around it rather than only around the number of passengers.
