Proms, arrive in style, home safe

For many students, prom night is the first big occasion of their lives. We provide a smart arrival at the venue and a safe, pre-booked ride home at the end, arranged with parents, who stay in control of the plan.

School proms in England usually take place at the end of Year 11 or Year 13, in June and early July, after exams finish. Students want to arrive together and look the part. Parents want to know exactly who is driving their child, where the car is going and when they will be home. Both are reasonable, and a well-planned booking gives both.

This page explains how prom transport works with us, which cars suit which groups, how the ride home is arranged and what we need from parents. We do not provide stretch limousines or party buses; we provide chauffeur-driven Mercedes saloons and V-Class vehicles, and every chauffeur holds a TfL private hire driver’s licence.

Who books?

A parent or guardian. Most prom passengers are under 18, so the booking, the contact details and the plan for the evening come from an adult. Often one parent books on behalf of a group of friends and shares the cost with the other families. We deal with that parent throughout and send them the confirmation and the chauffeur’s details.

Which car?

For a couple or up to three friends, the Mercedes S-Class, is the one students tend to ask for, because it looks the part on arrival. For a group of four to six, the Mercedes V-Class, keeps everyone together, with room for dresses. For a larger group, two V-Class vehicles travelling together. All are clean, modern and driven by licensed chauffeurs.

The arrival

Most groups meet at one house for photographs before the prom. The car collects everyone from there at an agreed time and drives to the venue. Many schools and venues have a set arrival window and a drop-off point where students are photographed as they arrive. Tell us the venue and any instructions from the school, and the chauffeur will follow them.

The ride home

The return journey matters most to parents. We agree the pickup time and place in advance, usually the venue at the end of the evening. The chauffeur will not leave with fewer passengers than expected without calling the booking parent. If the plan changes, for example to an after-party at a friend’s house, the change must come from the booking parent, not from the students in the car.

Drop-offs at several homes

At the end of the night, the car can drop each student at their own home. Give us the addresses in the order you prefer. Parents can ask for a message when their child has been dropped off.

Alcohol and behaviour

It is illegal to sell alcohol to anyone under 18, and the chauffeur will not supply or serve alcohol to anyone. Parents can tell us their own rules for the car, and the chauffeur will keep to them. If passengers behave in a way that makes the car unsafe to drive, the chauffeur will stop and call the booking parent.

Licensed chauffeurs

All private hire drivers in London are licensed by Transport for London, and TfL’s licensing includes an enhanced criminal record check. The driver’s licence details are available to the booking parent on request. Chauffeurs carry their licence badge and the vehicle displays its licence discs.

Proms outside London

Many proms are held at hotels and country houses in Surrey, Kent, Hertfordshire, Essex and Berkshire. We cover those venues too. Allow for longer journeys, and give us the full address of the venue, because some country houses have long private drives with a separate entrance for cars.

When to book

Prom season is concentrated into a few weeks, and the most popular cars are booked early, especially on Friday evenings at the end of June. Book as soon as the date is known. If the group is still forming, a provisional booking with the date and the likely number is better than waiting.

The price

The fare is fixed at booking and covers the arrival, the waiting or return trip as agreed, and the drop-offs at home. There are no extra charges on the night. For groups sharing the cost, one parent pays and settles with the others.

Photographs before the prom

The gathering at a friend’s house before the prom is often the part parents enjoy most. Tell us the address and the time you want the car to arrive. The chauffeur can wait a few minutes while photographs are taken beside the car, and then set off on time. Allow for traffic; on a Friday evening in June, a journey that takes fifteen minutes at midday can take forty.

Students with additional needs

If a student uses a wheelchair or has other access needs, tell us when you book. A folding wheelchair fits in the luggage area of most of our vehicles. A student who needs to travel seated in their own wheelchair needs an adapted vehicle, and we will say honestly whether we can provide one on the date. Every student should be able to arrive with their friends.

What the price includes

  1. 01

    Flight tracking

The chauffeur follows your flight number, so an early landing or a delay moves the pickup with it.

    Meet and greet

Your chauffeur waits in arrivals with a board showing your name, and takes the bags from there.

  3. 03

    A fixed price

Agreed when you book. Traffic, a longer route on the day or a late landing do not change it.

  4. 04

    Parking and drop-off

Airport drop-off and short-stay parking charges are part of the price, not added afterwards.

  5. 05

    A route from live traffic

The chauffeur checks the roads before setting off and picks the line that is moving.
