Heathrow to St Pancras transfers
Heathrow to St Pancras
St Pancras International is about 18 miles from Heathrow, and the drive takes around 43 minutes off-peak or about an hour in the weekday rush. Most people making this journey are connecting from a flight to a Eurostar train.
Flying into Heathrow and continuing to Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam by Eurostar is a common plan, especially for travellers from North America and Asia who want to see two or three European cities without another flight. It works well, but it involves a connection with no through ticket, and the timing needs care.
This guide explains how to plan the gap between landing and the train, the route across London, where the car drops you at St Pancras, and how the Piccadilly line compares.
This guide explains how a Heathrow to St Pancras International transfer works from start to finish: the road, the timing and when the alternatives make more sense.
How much time do you need between flight and Eurostar?
More than most people expect. After a long-haul landing, immigration and baggage reclaim at Heathrow can take anything from 30 minutes to well over an hour. The drive is around 45 minutes to an hour. Eurostar then asks passengers to arrive well before departure to go through security and French or Belgian passport control at St Pancras, and it closes check-in before the train leaves.
Put together, we suggest at least four hours between your scheduled landing and the Eurostar departure, and five for a peak-time arrival or a busy summer day. Check the recommended arrival time on your Eurostar booking, as it varies.
Which route does the chauffeur take?
Usually the A40 and the Westway from the airport’s northern side, then the Marylebone Road and the Euston Road, which runs straight past St Pancras. It is a direct line with few turns. When the Westway is slow, the chauffeur may use the M4 and cut north through Hyde Park and Marylebone.
The Euston Road is one of the busiest roads in London, and the final stretch past Euston and King’s Cross can be slow at rush hour. The chauffeur allows for it.
Where does the car drop you?
The Eurostar departures entrance is on the western side of St Pancras. The chauffeur will stop at the nearest point where private hire cars are allowed to set down and walk with you to the entrance with your luggage. The roads around the station, including the Euston Road and Pancras Road, are heavily restricted, so the exact spot depends on the time of day.
Is the Piccadilly line a sensible alternative?
The Piccadilly line runs directly from Heathrow to King’s Cross St Pancras, so there is no change. It is, though, a long ride on a slow line with many stops, and at busy times the carriages are crowded. With a single small case and plenty of time, it is a reasonable choice.
With heavy luggage, which Eurostar travellers often have, or with a tight connection, the car is the safer option. It also avoids the long walk through King’s Cross St Pancras Underground station to the Eurostar entrance.

What if your flight is delayed?
The chauffeur follows the flight and adjusts the pickup. If the delay threatens your Eurostar, we will tell you as soon as it becomes clear, so you can contact Eurostar about changing to a later train while there is still time. Your fixed price does not change because of a delay.
What about a hotel night before the Eurostar?
Many travellers break the journey with a night in London, often at one of the hotels around King’s Cross and St Pancras, including the one built into the station itself. That removes the connection risk entirely. The chauffeur will drop you at the hotel entrance, and the next morning, the Eurostar is a short walk away.
Arriving at Terminal 2 from Europe?
Terminal 2, the Queen’s Terminal, handles many European and Star Alliance flights. Passengers on a short European hop often clear immigration quickly, especially with eGates, and those with hand luggage only can be in the car within half an hour of landing. That makes a same-day Eurostar connection from a European flight more comfortable than one from a long-haul arrival.
The chauffeur waits in the Terminal 2 arrivals hall, which has a single public meeting area in front of the exit, and the walk to the car park is short. From Terminal 2, the route to the A40 and the Westway starts quickly, and the drive to St Pancras is typically around 45 minutes outside the rush.
Is there a Congestion Charge?
No. St Pancras is on the northern side of the Euston Road, which is the zone’s free boundary, and the route along the Marylebone Road and the Euston Road stays outside it.
And from Eurostar to Heathrow?
The reverse journey, from a Eurostar arrival to a flight, is just as common. The chauffeur meets you in the Eurostar arrivals area and drives you to Heathrow. Allow at least three and a half hours between the train’s arrival and a long-haul departure. Heathrow’s £7 drop-off charge is included.

About 43 minutes off-peak and around an hour in the rush.
How much time should I leave between my flight and the Eurostar?
At least four hours, and five at busy times.

It is direct but slow. With heavy luggage or a tight connection, a car is safer.
Where will the car drop me?

Is there a Congestion Charge to St Pancras?
No. St Pancras is outside the zone.
