Airport transfers

Airport transfers, both ways

An airport transfer covers the whole journey in either direction: a chauffeur waiting inside the terminal when you land, a pickup at your door timed to your flight when you leave, and a car between two airports when your trip needs one.

Everything we do starts here. Arrivals, departures, the name board in the arrivals hall and the drive from Heathrow to Gatwick are not separate products; they are parts of one service, run the same way at every London airport. You give us the flight, the address and the luggage, and we plan the journey around them.

This page explains how each direction works, what we need from you, and how to handle the awkward cases: late flights, lost bags, diversions, the first departures of the day and connections between two airports.

What do you need to tell us?

The flight number, the date, the airport and terminal if you know it, the number of passengers and cases, the address and a mobile number that works in the UK. The flight number is the key piece. With it, the chauffeur can see the departure, the expected landing and the actual landing, and plan around all three. If you are booking for someone else, give us their mobile number and the name to show on the board.

Arrivals: tracked from take-off

We follow your flight from the moment it leaves. If it departs late, the pickup moves automatically; if it gains time in the air, the chauffeur is already on the way. You do not need to message us when the time changes, and the fare stays the same either way.

Met inside the terminal

Your chauffeur comes into the arrivals hall and waits just beyond the doors from customs, holding a board with your name. If you would rather not have your full name shown, ask for a first name, a company name or a code word. The chauffeur takes the trolley and walks you to the car, usually in the short-stay car park beside the terminal. If you cannot see them, stay near the exit and call the number in your confirmation; they will come to you.

When immigration or baggage takes a long time

Queues at the UK border vary a great deal, and eGates help many passengers but not all. The chauffeur keeps watching the doors. If your bag is missing, report it at the baggage services desk before you leave the reclaim hall, then send us a short message. The chauffeur will wait while the report is filed.

If the flight is diverted

If your flight lands at a different airport, we contact you as soon as we see it. We can send the chauffeur to the new airport or wait for the airline’s onward transport to bring you back. Any change to the fare is agreed with you before the chauffeur sets off.

Departures: working back from the flight

For a departure, we start with the time your airline closes bag drop, add time for security, then add the drive for the hour you will be travelling and a margin for delays. From central London on a weekday, that usually means leaving about three hours before a long-haul flight from Heathrow and two and a half before a short-haul one, with half an hour more for Gatwick, Stansted and Luton. London City, with its compact terminal, is the exception. The pickup we suggest is based on your actual flight and route.

The first flights of the day

The first wave of departures at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted leaves between 06:00 and 07:30, and many of those flights go before the first trains reach the airport. Pickups from London are often between 03:30 and 04:30. The chauffeur messages when outside and loads the cases quietly. At the terminal, they unload onto a trolley at the drop-off area; the drop-off charges at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton are included in the fare.

Busy days on the roads

Friday afternoons, the start of school holidays, bank holiday weekends and the days before Christmas are the busiest days of the year on the roads to the airports, and security queues are longer too. On those days we add time to the pickup. If you want a larger margin still, ask.

Between two London airports

Many trips land at one London airport and leave from another. Heathrow to Gatwick is about 45 miles and takes around an hour off-peak; Heathrow to Stansted takes about an hour and a half; Heathrow to London City is only 26 miles but crosses the whole of London. To change airports you must enter the UK, collect your bags and check in again, so leave a generous gap: rarely less than five hours between a long-haul arrival and the next departure, and six is safer. Give us both flight numbers, and we will tell you early if a delay puts the connection at risk.

Which airports?

Every London airport: Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City and Southend, and the business aviation airports at Biggin Hill, Farnborough and RAF Northolt. Each has its own guide on this site with terminal meeting points and drive times to every London borough.

Which car?

Choose by luggage first. Two large cases fit in the E-Class or the S-Class; three or more, or four or more people with cases, need the V-Class. Travellers coming home from a long trip, and anyone changing airports, usually carry more than they expect. If in doubt, go one size up.

Children and special assistance

Give us each child’s age, and the chauffeur will bring and fit the right seats; UK law requires a suitable child seat for children under 12 years old or 135 centimetres tall. If you have booked airline assistance for a departure, the chauffeur will drop you as close to the assistance point as the terminal allows and help you there with your luggage.
