Heathrow to Mayfair
The drive from Heathrow to Mayfair is about 16 miles and takes around 35 minutes when the M4 is clear, or close to 50 minutes in the weekday rush. Your chauffeur meets you in arrivals and brings you to the door of your hotel, house or office in W1.
Most of the people we drive from Heathrow to Mayfair are arriving, not leaving: guests landing on overnight flights from New York, the Gulf or Asia and heading for the hotels around Park Lane, Grosvenor Square and Berkeley Square. For them, the journey is the last hour of a long trip, and what matters is a calm car, a chauffeur who knows the hotel entrances and a fixed price with no surprises.
This guide follows that journey from the terminal to the kerb. It covers timings by time of day, the line the chauffeur takes, how the Congestion Charge applies at the Mayfair end, and an honest comparison with the Elizabeth line, which now stops in Mayfair itself.
This guide explains how a Heathrow to Mayfair transfer works from start to finish: the road, the timing and when the alternatives make more sense.
How long does it take at different times of day?
Early morning is the sweet spot. Long-haul flights land from about 05:00, and between then and 07:00 the inbound M4 and the Cromwell Road are quiet, so the drive often takes half an hour or a little more. From about 07:30 to 09:30 on a weekday, the same run can take 50 minutes to an hour, with the slowest stretch between the Chiswick roundabout and Hyde Park Corner.
Late morning and early afternoon usually sit in between, at around 40 minutes. The evening rush, from about 16:30, mostly affects traffic leaving London, so an evening arrival into Mayfair is often quicker than a departure at the same hour.
Which way does the chauffeur go?
The standard line is the M4 to Chiswick, over the Hammersmith flyover, along the Cromwell Road and Brompton Road to Knightsbridge, and round Hyde Park Corner onto Park Lane. From there, the car turns into Mayfair’s grid at Mount Street, Upper Brook Street or Curzon Street, depending on your address.
When the Cromwell Road is blocked, chauffeurs may leave the M4 earlier and use the A40 and the Bayswater Road, entering Mayfair from the north at Marble Arch. The chauffeur makes that call from live traffic, and your price does not change with the route.
Where will your chauffeur meet you at Heathrow?
In the arrivals hall of your terminal, just past the exit from customs, holding a board with your name. At Terminal 5, that is a single wide hall; at Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, the meeting area sits directly in front of the arrivals doors. The chauffeur follows your flight, so an early landing or a delay moves the pickup automatically, and there is no need to call.
From the hall, it is a short walk to the car park beside the terminal. The chauffeur takes the trolley or the bags.
How does arrival at a Mayfair hotel work?
The large hotels on Park Lane and the smaller ones on Brook Street and Albemarle Street all have a point where a car can stop and door staff who will take your luggage. Tell us the hotel, and the chauffeur will pull up at the right entrance, not simply the nearest kerb.
Check-in times are usually mid-afternoon, and a 07:00 arrival will be too early for most rooms. Hotels in Mayfair are used to this: they will hold your bags, and many offer a lounge or breakfast while you wait. If you would rather go somewhere else first, the chauffeur can take your luggage to the hotel and drop you at a café or an office.

Does the Congestion Charge apply on the way in?
Yes, if the car enters Mayfair during charging hours. Mayfair is inside the Congestion Charging Zone, so a journey that arrives between 07:00 and 18:00 on a weekday, or between 12:00 and 18:00 at weekends and on bank holidays, incurs the £18 daily charge. Your fixed price includes it whenever it applies.
A dawn arrival before 07:00 on a weekday avoids it, which is one reason an early landing can be the cheapest time to reach Mayfair as well as the quickest.
Car or Elizabeth line to Mayfair?
Since the Elizabeth line opened, Bond Street station, on Mayfair’s northern edge, has direct trains from the Heathrow stations. For a single traveller with a small bag, heading to an address near Oxford Street at a busy time of day, the train is a sensible choice and will often match a car.
The car wins with real luggage, with children, after a long overnight flight, or for an address in the southern part of Mayfair, around Curzon Street or Piccadilly, which is a fair walk from Bond Street with cases. It also removes the walk from the Heathrow platform to arrivals at Terminal 5, which is longer than it looks.
What about the return to Heathrow?
Leaving Mayfair for the airport takes about the same time outside the rush, but the evening peak on the westbound Cromwell Road and the M4 can push it past an hour. For an evening long-haul departure, we suggest a pickup around three hours before the flight. Heathrow’s £7 drop-off charge is included, and the chauffeur sets you down at your terminal’s departures kerb.
