St Pancras airport transfers

St Pancras, from Eurostar to the airport

From St Pancras International, Heathrow is about 18 miles and 43 minutes away off-peak, London City about 34 minutes, and Luton roughly an hour. Most of the journeys we run from here connect a Eurostar arrival with a flight.

St Pancras International is the London terminus for Eurostar trains from Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, and for high-speed services from Kent and trains on the Midland Main Line from the East Midlands and Sheffield. Thameslink runs underneath it, north to Luton and south to Gatwick.

Travellers arriving on the Eurostar often have one more journey to make the same day: a flight from a London airport. This page explains how a car connection works, where the chauffeur meets you inside the station, how much time to leave between train and plane, and when Thameslink is honestly the better choice.

How does a Eurostar-to-flight connection work?

Give us the Eurostar train number and your flight. The chauffeur follows the train’s running, so an early or late arrival moves the pickup automatically, and waits for you in the Eurostar arrivals area as you come through the exit, with a board showing your name. From there, it is a short walk to the car at the nearest point where private hire vehicles can stop.

Because Eurostar passengers clear passport control before boarding in Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam, there are no queues on arrival in London. You walk off the platform and into the arrivals hall, which makes the connection faster than an international flight arrival.

How much time should you leave between train and plane?

More than the drive alone suggests. For a long-haul flight from Heathrow, we suggest at least three and a half hours between the Eurostar’s scheduled arrival and your departure. That covers a possible train delay, the drive of about 43 minutes off-peak or an hour in the rush, and check-in and security.

For a short-haul flight from London City, two and a half hours is usually enough. If your connection looks tight, tell us when you book, and we will be honest about whether it is realistic or whether a later flight would be safer.

How much luggage do Eurostar travellers bring?

Often more than air travellers, because Eurostar’s allowance is generous: each passenger can usually bring two large suitcases and a smaller bag, without the weight limits airlines apply. A family of four stepping off the train can easily have eight cases and four bags between them, which will not fit in one saloon.

Tell us the number of passengers and cases when you book. For two people with four cases, the V-Class is the safer choice; for a family with a full allowance, the V-Class or two cars. Remember that your onward flight may have stricter limits than the train did, so it is worth checking the airline’s allowance before you leave home.

Is Thameslink quicker to Gatwick or Luton?

Often, for a traveller with light luggage. Thameslink trains run from the platforms under St Pancras directly to Gatwick and to Luton Airport Parkway, where a shuttle connects to the terminal. They are frequent, and at busy times they will usually beat a car through London traffic.

A car makes more sense after a Eurostar journey with heavy luggage, with children, or late in the evening when trains are less frequent. It also saves a walk through the station with cases and, for Luton, the change to the shuttle.

Which airport is quickest from St Pancras?

By road, London City, at about nine miles and 34 minutes off-peak via the A501 and the A13. Heathrow is about 43 minutes off-peak via the Euston Road and the Westway, and about an hour in the rush. Luton is about an hour via the A1 and the M1. Stansted and Gatwick are each well over an hour, and for Gatwick the Thameslink train is usually the better choice.

Where does the chauffeur meet you?

For Eurostar arrivals, in the arrivals area just past the exit from the international platforms. For Midland Main Line, Thameslink and Southeastern trains, at a point you agree when you book, usually by the ticket barriers of your platform or under the station clock.

The car will be waiting at the nearest legal stopping point outside the station. The roads around St Pancras, including the Euston Road and Pancras Road, are busy and heavily restricted, so the chauffeur will walk with you to the car rather than try to stop at the front door.

Can you take me to St Pancras for a Eurostar departure?

Yes. Many travellers fly into London and continue by Eurostar. The chauffeur meets you at the airport and brings you to the station. Eurostar asks passengers to arrive well before departure for security and passport checks, and the recommended time varies, so check your booking. From Heathrow, allow about an hour for the drive in the rush.

Is St Pancras inside the Congestion Charge zone?

No. The station sits on the northern side of the Euston Road, which is the zone’s free boundary route. A pickup at St Pancras does not incur the charge, and the routes to Heathrow, Luton and London City can be driven without entering the zone.
