Heathrow to Wimbledon transfers
Heathrow to Wimbledon
The quickest road from Heathrow to Wimbledon usually goes round London rather than through it, via the M25 and the A3. It is about 32 miles that way and takes around 44 minutes off-peak, or about 57 minutes in the rush.
On a map, Wimbledon looks as if it should be a short hop from Heathrow across south-west London. By road, the direct line runs through Hounslow, Twickenham and Kingston on busy local roads, and it is often slower than the longer route round the M25 and in on the A3. Our chauffeurs choose between them on the day.
This guide explains that choice, covers arrivals during the Championships, when Wimbledon fills with players, officials and visitors, and looks at why there is no simple rail alternative on this route.
This guide explains how a Heathrow to Wimbledon transfer works from start to finish: the road, the timing and when the alternatives make more sense.
Why go round the M25?
Because it is usually quicker. The motorway route leaves Heathrow on the M25 southbound, joins the A3 at Wisley, and comes back into London past Kingston to the Robin Hood roundabout and Wimbledon. It is longer in miles, about 32 in our route data, but most of it is fast road, and it takes around 44 minutes when traffic is light.
The alternative, through Hounslow and Twickenham to the A316 and across Kingston or Richmond, is shorter but slower for much of the day, with many junctions and traffic lights. At quiet times, such as late at night, the chauffeur may take it.
Does your terminal make a difference?
A little, on this route. Terminal 5 sits on the western edge of the airport with its own link to the M25 at junction 14, so from there the car is on the motorway within minutes and heading south. From Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, the car uses the M4 spur to reach the M25 at junction 15, which adds a few minutes. Terminal 4, on the southern side, also joins the M25 at junction 14 via the perimeter road.
For a Wimbledon journey, that means Terminal 5 arrivals are often the quickest of all, around 40 minutes on a clear road. Tell us the terminal when you book, and the chauffeur will plan the exit.
What about families arriving in the holidays?
Many Wimbledon families fly home through Heathrow at the end of the school holidays, often on overnight flights that land early in the morning. Tell us the children’s ages when you book, and we will fit the right seats before the pickup. With pushchairs and a fortnight’s luggage, the V-Class is the comfortable choice, and at that hour the M25 and the A3 are quiet enough for the drive home to take well under an hour.
How long should you allow?
About 45 minutes outside the rush and about an hour at busy times. The M25 between Heathrow and the A3 is one of the busiest stretches of motorway in Britain, and an incident there can add time quickly. The chauffeur checks it before leaving the airport and switches routes if it is blocked.

Arriving for the Championships?
For two weeks from late June, Wimbledon hosts the tennis Championships, and many players, coaches, officials, broadcasters and visitors arrive at Heathrow in the days before. The roads around the All England Club are restricted, and Church Road and the surrounding streets are busy from early morning.
We can meet any flight and take you to a rented house in the Village, a hotel nearby or accommodation provided for the tournament. Racket bags and equipment fit easily; tell us how much you are carrying. For a player’s team or a broadcast crew, we can send several cars timed to arrive together, and keep the same chauffeurs throughout your stay if that helps.
Where does the car drop you?
In Wimbledon Village, many houses have gates and driveways; give us the gate code or tell us whether someone will open it, and the chauffeur can pull in to unload. In the town centre around the station and the Broadway, the chauffeur will stop at the nearest legal point for flats and hotels. During the Championships, some roads near the grounds are closed, and we will agree a drop-off point outside the restrictions.
Is there a train from Heathrow to Wimbledon?
Not a simple one. Rail and Underground journeys involve at least one change, usually via central London or via the Piccadilly and District lines, and they take longer than the car. With light luggage and plenty of time, they are possible. With any real luggage, the car is the practical choice on this route.
Where will the chauffeur meet you at Heathrow?
In the arrivals hall of your terminal, with a board showing your name. The chauffeur follows your flight and adjusts to any delay. For tournament arrivals, we can show the team or the organisation on the board if you prefer.
Is there a Congestion Charge?
No. Neither route goes anywhere near the Congestion Charging Zone, and Wimbledon is in outer London.
What about the return to Heathrow?
Going back, the chauffeur again chooses between the A3 and the M25 or the local roads through Kingston. For a long-haul flight, allow about three hours from pickup to departure. During the Championships, add a little extra time, especially around the start and end of play. Heathrow’s £7 drop-off charge is included in the fixed price.
