Hounslow airport transfers

Hounslow, along the Great West Road

Heathrow is about six miles from Hounslow town centre and takes around 14 minutes on a clear road. The borough stretches east to Chiswick, where the M4 begins, so almost every part of it has a quick run to the airport.

The London Borough of Hounslow runs along the Great West Road from Chiswick and Brentford in the east, through Isleworth and Hounslow, to Cranford, Feltham and Bedfont on Heathrow’s eastern boundary. Planes on final approach pass low over much of it, and many residents work at the airport or for the businesses around it.

For airport journeys, the borough is one of the best-placed in London. The A4 and the M4 run straight through it, and the M25 and the M3 are close to its southern end. This page explains the drive to each airport, what to expect on busy days at Brentford’s stadium, and how pickups work from Chiswick’s terraces to Feltham’s estates.

How quick is Heathrow from Hounslow?

Very. From Hounslow town centre, the drive along the A4 Bath Road takes about 14 minutes off-peak and 18 minutes in the rush. From Feltham and Bedfont, the southern perimeter road reaches Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 in a similar time. From Chiswick, allow around 20 to 25 minutes via the M4.

For a long-haul flight, we still suggest arriving at the terminal about three hours before departure. Heathrow’s check-in and security times vary more than the drive does.

Why does Chiswick matter for airport traffic?

Because the M4 begins at the Chiswick roundabout, and much of London’s traffic to Heathrow passes through it. On a weekday morning, the approaches from the Hogarth roundabout and the A406 North Circular can queue, and the elevated M4 section into Brentford slows when there are works.

Chauffeurs from Chiswick often join the M4 at the start and have a clear run from there. From the rest of the borough, the A4 at ground level is usually the better choice. Either way, the chauffeur checks live traffic before setting off.

How do Brentford match days affect the timing?

Brentford play at the Gtech Community Stadium beside Kew Bridge, close to the M4 and the A4. On match days, the roads around Kew Bridge and the stadium are busy for several hours, and parking restrictions extend into the surrounding streets.

If your pickup or arrival falls on a match day, we will check the fixtures when you book and plan the route around them. Twickenham Stadium, just across the borough boundary, has a similar effect on big rugby and concert days, particularly on the A316 and the roads around Isleworth.

Is Gatwick a realistic choice from here?

Yes. From the southern half of the borough, the M25 is close, and the drive to Gatwick via the M25 and the M23 takes around 58 minutes off-peak, or about 75 minutes in the rush. That is quicker than from much of central London.

For early holiday departures, the M25 is usually clear before six. For a 06:30 flight, a pickup at about 03:45 leaves enough time for the busy first wave at Gatwick’s security.

What about Farnborough and the business airports?

Farnborough, the business aviation airport in Hampshire, is about 42 minutes away via the M3. RAF Northolt is about 24 minutes away via the A312. For both, tell us the handling agent, and the chauffeur will go directly to the right building rather than a public entrance.

How long are the drives to Luton, London City and Stansted?

Luton is about an hour via the M25 and the M1, and it suits some short-haul holidays, particularly when the fares or flight times are better than the equivalent from Heathrow. London City is only about 20 miles away, but the route crosses all of central London, so it takes over an hour. Stansted, on the far side of London, is the longest, at around an hour and a half.

How do pickups work in different parts of the borough?

Chiswick’s residential streets are narrow and heavily parked, and the chauffeur may stop a little way along and walk to your door. On Chiswick High Road, bus lanes and loading restrictions apply for much of the day, so the chauffeur will meet you on a side street.

In Hounslow town centre, parts of the High Street are pedestrianised, and the chauffeur will choose the nearest open road. In Feltham, Hanworth and Bedfont, most homes have a quiet road or a driveway outside. For flats in the new developments around Brentford Lock and the Great West Road, give us the building name and the entrance with a drop-off area.

Which car suits a Hounslow journey?

For the short Heathrow run, the Mercedes E-Class is the usual choice. Families with holiday luggage should book the V-Class, which takes six passengers and six large cases. For a cruise from Southampton, the V-Class is also the best fit, and the drive via the M3 takes about an hour and a quarter.

    Meet and greet

Your chauffeur waits in arrivals with a board showing your name, and takes the bags from there.

  3. 03

    A fixed price

  5. 05

Good to know

Questions, answered

How long does it take from Chiswick to Heathrow?

Around 20 to 25 minutes off-peak via the M4, and a little longer in the weekday rush.

How far is Gatwick from Feltham?

About 40 miles via the M25, usually just under an hour off-peak.

Can you collect near the Brentford stadium on a match day?

Yes, but some roads will be busy or restricted. We check the fixtures and may suggest a nearby meeting point.

Is the Piccadilly line from Hounslow a good way to reach Heathrow?

It runs directly from the Hounslow stations and Hatton Cross, so with a small bag it is a fair choice. With heavy luggage, children or an early flight, a car from your door is simpler, and the drive is only a quarter of an hour.

Is Hounslow inside the Congestion Charge zone?

No. The zone covers central London only, and journeys from Hounslow to the airports do not pass through it.

Do you drive from Hounslow to Southampton for cruises?

Yes. The drive via the M3 takes about an hour and a quarter off-peak, in a car sized for cruise luggage.

Do you collect from Isleworth and Brentford?

Yes. We cover the whole borough, including Isleworth, Brentford, Osterley, Heston, Cranford, Hanworth and Bedfont.
